The maple tree magic that is Maple Sugar season in New Hampshire happens every spring for approximately 4-6 weeks. It’s during the month of March, with warmer days and chilly nights that maple sugar season is in full force. During this time, the sap is collected from Sugar Maple trees and then boiled down to the sweet syrup that we all love. Maple Sugar season has a rich history in New Hampshire, dating back hundreds of years; practiced by Native Americans prior to European settlement. In celebration of our love for maple syrup, we’ve put together a list of five great ways to enjoy Maple Sugar season in New Hampshire

Visit An Authentic Maple Sugar House. 

Visitors are welcome at sugar houses across the state to watch the process and taste the result.  While production season is short, the resulting syrups and candies are available all year long. This directory of sugar shacks to visit in NH is sure to keep any maple sugar enthusiast busy. Road trip anyone? New Hampshire celebrates “Maple Weekend” March 19th & 20th with over 350 maple producers in the state, though many properties open their doors to visitors throughout the month of March.

This is a fun, educational, and tasty weekend event dedicated to all things maple. Located in nearby Tamworth, N.H. at the Eldridge Family Sugar House, you can participate in tours of the sap house so you can learn the process of how maple syrup is made. Enjoy samples, and indulge in yummy treats like Maple Soft Serve ice cream! 

Take A Hike Or Snowshoe Through New Hampshire Forests, Where Maple Trees Are Plentiful 

Did you know most maple trees are over 30 years old before they are tapped for their sap? Immerse yourself in the beauty of the region’s forests with a hike or snowshoe.
