The Perfect Winter Day

November 18, 2020

Winter days in New England can be the perfect way to hit reset from the busy chaos of our daily lives and allow us to take in nature, serenity, and peace. So, close your eyes, and imagine the perfect winter day.

You begin your morning waking to the smell of freshly baked muffins and coffee, while the alpen glow light over the presidential mountains brightens into a crisp sunny day. You’re feeling refreshed from a relaxing evening spent in your room at the Snowvillage Inn, as you had snuggled in front of the soothing fireplace and read a book before turning in. After a nourishing breakfast at your own private table, you feel energized and ready to adventure.

Mid-morning, you join your loved ones for a snowshoe trek through the property, meandering through quiet forests that open up to majestic views. As you roam under the snowy covered trees, it dawns on you what’s missing: you cannot hear any traffic. There are no pings on your phone. Simply, it’s you, your loved ones, and the absolute beauty of nature.

You return from snowshoeing and decide to venture into scenic Eaton Village where you pick up a warm soup and sandwiches to go from the Eaton Village Store, and picnic alongside scenic Crystal Lake. After lunch you venture back to the Inn to warm up in the common areas, and get a little down time with a book in front of the fireplace.

The afternoon is spent on another grand adventure, with a trip to Purity Springs Resort to explore their groomed cross country ski trails. Featuring over 20km of scenic trails that wind through the forests around purity lake, traverse through the secluded grounds of Purity Spring Resort, and twist through tall pines in the adjacent NH Hoyt Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary, you will again find yourself again immersed in the secluded beauty of Eaton, N.H. When you return to the Inn, be sure to warm up with hot beverages and freshly baked cookies.

After an energetic day exploring, gather for a scrumptious dinner at Max’s Restaurant and Pub, the perfect setting for conversation, refreshing cocktails, and casual fine dining where seasonal favorites like New England Clam Chowder, Roasted Duck Breast, Rack of Lamb, Fresh Maine Coast oysters, and a Chocolate Flourless Torte will be sure to satisfy the hunger that comes after a long day of enjoying nature.

Close the day out in one of our common areas, which all feature books and board games. Feeling competitive? Challenge your friends to a game night! The beauty of our common areas is that you can be social with the people you feel safe closest to, without the crowds of a typical restaurant or bar.

Perhaps, as the day winds to an end, you may find yourself wondering how you could possibly top such a delightful winter day. If you are a lover of beer and spirits, spend a day exploring some local favorites. Trust our recommendations of visiting Tuckerman Brewing Co for a seated tour, flight tastings, and two signature glasses to take home with you. You can also take a personal tour and tasting at Tamworth Distilling, where you will receive a keepsake rocks glass and enjoy 15% off of all bottle sales.

Whether you’re feeling adventurous and active; whether you’re an absolute beginner or experienced outdoorsperson;  or if you are just looking for some serene downtime, the Snowvillage Inn has exactly what you need to head home feeling revitalized. Be sure to check out our Snowshoe, Romance, and “For The Love Of Beer” packages, so that you can begin to plan and look forward to your next getaway. We will see you then!
