Stone Mountain Arts Center (or SMAC as us locals call it!)  is known for its intimate setting and unique atmosphere. The venue is located in rural Brownfield, Maine, just south of the White Mountains and not far from Maine and New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. It is surrounded by trees and mountains, creating a peaceful and picturesque environment. Best of all, it’s a very short drive from Snowvillage Inn!

Here are our top reasons why we think Stone Mountain Arts Center is the BEST venue anywhere!

The Performers – When you read the list of upcoming shows at Stone Mountain Arts Center (there are currently 100 shows announced!), you’d think you were looking at the calendar of a big city concert venue!  Previous and upcoming acts include big names like the Indigo Girls, Lyle Lovett, Robert Cray, Keb Mo, Marcia Ball, Tom Rush, Judy Collins, Dar Williams, Della Mae and many others! Performers love SMAC because owner Carol Noonan (a performer herself), treats them like royalty. Their “green room” is legendary and Carol’s hospitality gets popular acts to play in this lovely-but-remote venue that is very much off the beaten track. You can view shows on our calendar here. 

The Venue – A music-lovers dream, SMAC is a humble 200-seat timber frame music hall located in the foothills of the White Mountains. The space was built by timber framer (and husband of Carol) Jeff Noonan. Its soaring timbers, tall ceilings and wide open spaces make for incredible acoustics. Every seat is a good seat here – that is a fact! With a purposeful 21-inch high stage, there is no great distance from the audience to the performer. It’s a delight for the eyes … and the ears.

The Food – Concert-goers are treated to a “before show” dinner right in the concert hall. Guests are seated “family style” meaning that you’ll share tables with others. It’s a great social occasion and a chance to talk to other music lovers. SMAC is famous for their flatbread pizzas, giant dinner salads and a changeable menu that might include scratch-made mac-and-cheese, chili or chicken tacos. You can also order up a nice selection of beer or wine with your meal or to enjoy with the concert. Our Live Music Packages include a $75 credit for dinner at SMAC when you book with us!

The Setting – SMAC is nestled in the woods and mountains of Brownfield, Maine. Brownfield literally burned to the ground in the forties. Brownfield is a small town with a post office and a corner store filled with snowmobilers or canoers depending on what time of year it is. As Carol put it, “I dunno…there is something here bigger than me that drives this train. It’s in them dar hills or something like that. There is just something about this neighborhood..the Blake neighborhood, named in the 18oos for the first people settling here. The audience feels it, and so do the artists…they all want to come back. I felt it the first time I came up to see our 200-year-old farmhouse.” You can read more about SMAC here. 

Their Weddings – SMAC is a popular wedding venue and we are proud to host rehearsal dinners and provide lodging for many SMAC celebrants. Carol and her team know how to throw a special event!
